Our Mission

Our Mission

Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered.
Proverbs 11:25 ESV

Our approach is unique:

  • Pastoral: we aren’t interested in developing a self-help program or reducing faith to an academic exercise. Christianity is for the whole person: heart, mind and soul.
  • Global: We live in an increasingly global world no matter where we live. We need the resources of the global church now more than ever before.
  • Local: The world may be our backyard, but we all have unique and specific needs. We help bring your faith home.

Our Guiding Principles provide focus for our approach:

Apollos Watered is a

  • globally engaged
  • confessionally Christian
  • biblically grounded

teaching ministry seeking to water the Church wherever God plants it and no matter what it looks like.

Paul planted and Apollos watered. Our role, like Apollos, is to saturate the Church. Ours is a pastoral mindset, it is who we are. We help people grow deeper roots in Christ so that theirs will be a flourishing, mature faith which will in turn saturate the world around them. We seek to bring the deep things of faith to the normal Christian experience, not merely the “spiritual” or professional clergy.

Apollos Watered is global in its engagement because the Church, while always local, is also always something greater than our individual congregations, denominations, and cultural incarnations. The Church is not of the West or the East, the Global North or the Global South. It is the Church of Jesus Christ and is represented by every tribe, tongue and nation. It is not best or most purely expressed by any one kind, group, or culture, but in all of us insofar as we confess Christ as we meet him in the Bible. We need one another. We all have things to learn from and to teach one another.

Apollos Watered is confessional, that is theological, in its approach. As confessional Christians, we affirm the historic Creeds of the faith such as Nicaea, and contemporary statements such as the NAE Statement of Faith and the Lausanne Covenant. Confessional creeds like these help us understand the message of the Bible because it is one book made of many books, written by many people to diverse cultures over many centuries. Its themes and concerns build and grow, culminating in the person and work of Jesus. A theological synthesis is needed to avoid the twin errors of dwelling solely on those aspects which appeal to us on the one hand and avoiding those areas which we find uncomfortable on the other. Over and over Scripture shows how God breaks human categories and ways of thinking, subverting simplistic positions. We believe that quite often God requires us to have a both/and way of thinking when the easy way out looks and sounds like an either/or. We seek to put Jesus Christ and his Kingdom above and before all else.

Being truly pastoral requires biblical grounding: our knowledge of who God is and what he is doing starts with Scripture. In and through it, the Holy Spirit speaks to and guides the Church of Jesus Christ. More than a historical book of human religious wisdom, it is the very word of God, and as such is foundational to our faith. As 1 Timothy 3:16-17 says, it is “God-breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (NIV)
